Farmor Engineering of Nobel Road, Dundee was founded in 1978 to supply the engineering community with a precision toolmaking and engineering facility which would offer quality, fair price and on-time delivery. Activities ranged from electronic and consumer industries for remote control undersea vehicles used in oil exploration and, indirectly component parts for the defence industry. Services included the development of pre-production component parts, through to small or large batch production supply.They installed a medium engineering fabrication and painting line capable of handling up to one tonne in weight, using the latest laser DNC cutting machine and MIG welding techniques. Farmor's flexiblilty was complemented by one of the world's foremost CAD/CAM computer systems for sheet metal fabrication. offering every facility from concept design to manufacture, whereby components could be drawn and tested with speed and efficiency. Diversification in the early 80s into precision sheet metal market enabled the company to grow and significant investment enhanced the facilities they had to offer. Although the sheetmetal/toolmaking medium fabrication and plating factories were autonomous, by taking advantage of having three major manufacturing sites within central Scotland, Farmor developed an integrated business that incoperated both corperate and operational activities. This covers visionary and stategic planning corperate philosophy and policy; and management working groups. They had one of the finest precision sheet metal and steel plate facilities in Scotland, combined with a well equipped toolroom, which was complemented by a highly dedicated and motivated management team and workforce.
