Forbrukertilsynet er et offentlig organ som fører tilsyn med forbrukervernreglene i markedsføringsloven, angrerettloven og en rekke andre lover. Vi forebygger og stopper ulovlig markedsføring, urimelige vilkår i kontrakter og andre former for ulovlig handelspraksis rettet mot forbrukere. Verktøyene vi bruker til dette er veiledning, informasjon og dialog med næringsdrivende, samt økonomiske sanksjoner.
Forbrukertilsynet har også ansvaret for det offentlige tvisteløsningstilbudet på forbrukerrettens område. Tilsynet tilbyr nøytral mekling, både mellom privatpersoner og mellom forbrukere og næringsdrivende.
