Formula Student Austria ist der österreichische Event im Rahmen der studentischen Rennserie Formula Student und findet seit 2008 jährlich statt. Diese Rennserie ermöglicht es jungen, engagierten Studierenden von Universitäten und Fachhochschulen aus aller Welt ihr Wissen, ihre Konstruktions- und Engineering-Fähigkeiten sowie auch ihre organisatorischen und kaufmännischen Talente in mehreren unterschiedlichen Disziplinen unter Beweis zu stellen.
Der österreichische Bewerb findet alljährlich am Red Bull Ring in Spielberg statt und hat international aufgrund der hohen Qualität und langjährigen guten Durchführung für die Teams eine große Bedeutung. Somit nehmen mittlerweile fast 60 Teams aus knapp 20 unterschiedlichen Nationen und damit über 1.500 Studierende jährlich teil.
Unterschiedliche Disziplinen fordern die Studierenden auf mehreren Ebenen. Neben der obligatorischen technischen Abnahme, die für die Teilnahme an den dynamischen Bewerben positiv abgeschlossen werden muss, geht es in den 4 dynamischen Bewerben um Schnelligkeit und Ausdauer der selbst konstruierten und gefertigten Rennboliden. Die drei statischen Bewerbe umfassen das Engineering Design und damit die Bewertung der Konstruktion des jeweiligen Fahrzeugs durch internationale Juroren. Außerdem geht es um die Bewertung des erstellten Business Plans und der Vermarktungsstrategie, genauso wie um die Gesamtkosten.
