La Fundación Movilidad Sostenible y Segura fue creada en abril de 2003, como un proyecto de cooperación conjunta de la Generalidad de Cataluña -a través del Departamento de Política Territorial y Obras Públicas- del Ayuntamiento de Barcelona -a través del Área de Medio Ambiente-, y la Asociación para la Promoción del Transporte Público.
La Fundación se marcó dos retos: impulsar un sistema de carsharing y convertirse en un referente en el ámbito de la movilidad sostenible en Cataluña.
El primer reto se logró al poco tiempo, ya que al inicio de 2005 la sociedad Cataluña CarSharing SA puso en marcha el primer servicio de car-sharing en España.
El segundo reto, el de la promoción de actividades relacionadas con la movilidad sostenible, se ha ido llevando a cabo en los últimos años.
