MISSION STATEMENT:
As a student-managed art gallery running out of Beloit College, Gallery ABBA is dedicated to representing Beloit College students, faculty, and alumni while simultaneously educating student workers about the intricacies of running an art gallery. Gallery ABBA views the responsibility of the gallery as the following:
- To work towards the development of each artist's career by providing a space to exhibit their work in a professional setting
- To create a historical archive for each artist in the form of a portfolio
- To act as a liaison to the Beloit community and college in order to sell artists' works
- To act as an accessible public space in which the exhibitions are open to an audience's subjectivity
- To educate student workers on how to operate an art gallery through experiential learning
HISTORY:
Gallery Abba was inaugurated in 2004 as one element of Beloit College's $1.1 million Center for Entrepreneurship in Liberal Education (CELEB) at Beloit. Made possible by generous donors such as alumnus David Myers '49, CELEB is dedicated to encouraging and supporting students to learn and apply their education to all types of entrepreneurial activity with a special focus on arts and communications.
Since 2004, the gallery has represented works in all media by Beloit College students, faculty, and alumni artists. This focus on Beloit College affiliates has set the pace for the entire program of the gallery to exhibit work that is well crafted, both conceptually and physically, and professionally presented. From its downtown Beloit storefront, Gallery Abba maintains a large exhibition space that is accessible to the Beloit community as a whole.
