For the past 32 years, Science Olympiad has inspired our nation's youth to pursue rigorous scientific challenges and fostered a deep understanding of the interaction between science, technology, teamwork, and problem-solving. Beginning as a group of science educators, Science Olympiad has evolved into one of the top science competitions in the United States, allowing thousands of students from nearly 7,400 teams in 49 states to challenge themselves and achieve their maximum potential. With a constantly changing roster of events in all areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Science Olympiad opens students’ eyes to a multitude of scientific disciplines and possible future careers, and enhances classroom education with a diverse wealth of content.
Run by Science Olympiad national-level alumni at Stanford and UC Berkeley, the Golden Gate Invitational will be a premier national science tournament on the West Coast, inviting over 800 high school students to compete in 23 team events that span all areas of STEM (see figure on right). Ranging from hands-on engineering in Electric Vehicle to laboratory-based crime solving in Forensics, these diverse events will expose competitors to a wealth of future job opportunities and encourage the pursuit of lifelong learning.
