In 2018, Go4STEAM was established as a non-profit organization focused on promoting STEAM education in Senegal. It aims to bridge the gender gap that exists in STEAM fields and build strong synergies around STEAM. To achieve their mission, they have launched several initiatives, including the STEM Mousso program in 2020. The STEM Mousso camp is designed for middle school girls and runs for one week with a focus on raising awareness among the girls and their parents. In addition, the program facilitates interactions between young girls and accomplished women leaders who serve as role models in STEM fields. The camp also focuses on fostering soft skills such as creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. Since its inception, STEM Mousso Camps have been conducted in four cities of Senegal, including Dakar, Kaolack, Saint Louis, and Ziguinchor, with 500 middle school girls participating thus far. Go4STEAM is off to a great start in its bid to promote STEAM education in Senegal and bridge the gender gap that exists in STEM fields.
