G.O.C.C.I.A (Green Opportunities to Clean-up Contaminants through an Interspecies Alliance) is an urban regeneration project aimed at recovering the former Goccia industrial site, located in the North-Ovest of Milan.
Through a remediation process using Nature-Based Solutions and the innovative quintuple helix governance model, the urban forest that spontaneously grew in the abandoned area over thirty years will be returned to the city.
The broader ambition is to co-design and validate a multi-species regenerative model for the remediation of contaminated urban sites, increase biodiversity, and promote social innovation, with the goal of making the model replicable at different scales and in various locations.
The project is funded through the EUI - European Urban Initiative programme (https://www.urban-initiative.eu/).
