We are a re-wilding Community Interest Company, on a mission to re-wild pockets of land throughout the UK. We are part-funded by an ethical IFA firm, Good Green Money (GGM), who commit 2% of turnover to the cause, as well as from generous donations from some of GGM's clients.
Once we raise enough money to buy a new pocket of land we start planting! Some of the donations are used to buy batches of young, native trees and bushes, tree protection tubes, tools and other equipment from The Woodland Trust.
The next thing we need is volunteers. If you are a local groups, school (or GGM client!) interested in coming along and helping us plant just let us know. We will share with you when and where our next planting event is, show you what to do if you're not sure, explain a little bit about the ecological benefits and then it’s away you go to get planting.
Over time, the Foundation sites should grow into ecologically mature areas full of plants, animals, birds and insects. We’ll keep them maintained but in the main, we want to leave things to re-wild as naturally as possible. Once the Foundation sites are mature, we’ll open them up for the public to enjoy, encouraging nature walks, wood harvesting, bird watching. As time goes by, we hope to add more sites all over the UK. The more we do, the more we can tackle climate change and improve our health and wellbeing.
Eventually, the rewilded sites will need to be professionally maintained which will allow for employment opportunities, and it is our intention to employ those that may need a bit of a helping hand as much as possible (long-term unemployed, ex-prisoners, etc). For now though, whilst the CIC is young, we need to get planting first!
