Gotcha Ninjas is a cloud-based social learning platform that teachers use in the classroom to encourage positive behaviour, motivate students and engage with parents. Our focus is to create a positive classroom environment, build a safe collaborative link with home and free up more time to allow teachers to teach. Children are now using a range of digital devices in their spare time. By borrowing design elements from the games that digital natives are already engaging in for fun, and using the technology and gaming structures children are already familiar with, we can apply them to behavioural management in the classroom. Teachers can then use the gamified data collected to give real-time feedback to students and their parents, as well as to make more informed decisions about curriculum planning and allocation of resources for students with particular learning or behavioural difficulties. Classmates can work together to collect points, earn badges and share their achievements with friends and parents in a safe web-based gaming environment. Points are distributed for a number of positive behaviours and the class can compete for points and ultimate rewards. Teachers also receive rewards for use and referrals and can view students’ history on a dashboard or download attendance data. Gotcha Ninjas aim is to engage, motivate and reward. By bringing children into the social, gamified world of the Ninjas, a positive and fun atmosphere can become a reality in the classroom.
