רשת תוכניות "גוונים" נוסדה בשנת 2000 על ידי הפדרציה היהודית של סן פרנסיסקו, במטרה לייצר ולפתח תכניות שיקדמו את תחום הפלורליזם במרחב הציבורי בישראל ויחזקו את ההכרות, הקשר ותחושת הסולידריות בין סגמנטים שונים בחברה הישראלית ובכך יבטיחו את קיומה של מדינת ישראל כמדינה יהודית – דמוקרטית.
ייחודן של התכניות טמון ברבגוניות הניכרת בה: מבחינת הרכב המשתתפים והתכנים, בדרכי העיסוק בתכנים אלו (הרצאות, סדנאות, מפגשים וסיורים) ובעיקר בהיותן תכניות מכוונות עשייה.
