The Hedhi Huru Initiative (Swahili for Menstrual Freedom) is an initiative of DADAS community-based organisation (CBO) that aims to support and empower girls to reach their potential. Over 40% of girls in Tanzania miss school due to lack of menstrual materials with 34% of girls experiencing fear of embarrassment in case of visible stains on clothes (Ref. UNICEF 2021). This is caused by the inability to access and afford menstruation materials. We aim to reduce accessibility and affordability barriers to menstruation materials, through provision of a reusable menstrual kit. The DADAS group through support of Rotary Club of York and Yorkits have developed and trained local tailors on making high quality reusable menstrual kits and has been fundraising and collaborating with other organizations to distribute the kits.
