Hellenic Rescue Team is a non-governmental organization of Search and Rescue; its members participated voluntarily in operations since 1978. Since 1994 it is running under the form of an association. Is an organization acknowledged by Civil Protection Authorities of Ministry of Internal Affairs with Register No6, and is in constant cooperation with the Ministry of Citizen Protection (with Register No14) as well as the European Union (ECHO*).
HRT is member of the INSARAG / UN, IKAR/CISA, IRO & IMRF as well.
Since January 2012, HRT is under a major shift. As the organisation is getting bigger and involved in more and more R&D projects, it gradually strengthens its research resources. The HRT's fundamental aim is the Search and Rescue of people in need and the organisation of Aid Missions in naturals and man-made disasters all over the world, nevertheless a major objective (and vital tool to achieve our mission) is Research and Development in the area of Search and Rescue, Crisis and crowd management, telecommunications, ICT for first responders.
With its human potential of 3000 volunteers all over Hellas, participates in Search and Rescue missions in cases of urgent needs and massive disasters, wherever they take place in Hellas or abroad. It is consisted of professional and amateur rescuers with perfect scientific and technological knowledge who act within the spirit of voluntarism.
HRT's fundamental objectives are the Search and Rescue of people in need as well as to provide humanitarian aid inside and outside Hellenic borders.
HRT has participated in numerous missions regarding massive disasters, mountain rescue, water search and rescue, first aid and various humanitarian missions. Moreover, HRT has a major focus in research and technology area and organises various training activities.
