One of the surgeons has gone on to become a national expert in patient safety and quality improvement, and has proven that poor communication and medical errors go hand in hand. It’s often said that technology waits for no one, and in the decade since then mobile technology has made medical communication instant and efficient. However, only half of the healthcare communication equation has been solved. Until now. One night in early 2012 the two surgeons were speaking on the phone when they were simultaneously text messaged by their residents regarding sensitive inpatient information. Realizing the magnitude of this security breach, and the need for instant mobile communication with the security to protect their patients, HIPPOmsg was born.
