Hope for Us Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in New York City. Founded in July 2013, Hope for Us works with youth in an effort to improve their living conditions. We are dedicated to assisting youth with Sickle Cell Anemia in addition to children living in low-income communities. We look to fulfill our mission of “enhancing and improving the quality of life for youth living in low-income communities and children with Sickle Cell Anemia.” Sickle Cell Anemia is an inherited blood disorder that affects red blood cells. With no known cure, Sickle Cell Anemia influences the lives of many families. By providing children with recreational activities such as art classes, Hope for Us in turn provides assistance to those affected by Sickle Cell Anemia. Currently, our organization has an ongoing art program available to children free of charge and stages various events, in which children are able to enjoy themselves and recognize their potential. As part of our vision, we strive to be an advocate for those affected by the disease and increase its awareness to the public at large. In addition to our focus on Sickle Cell Anemia, we recognize that families of low-income throughout New York City also face many challenges. Low-income communities endure many significant struggles, which account for the lack of many necessities. Hope for Us sees the importance of integrating our mission within community centers and homeless shelters. Through our belief that those of low-income should have essential needs, Hope for Us conducts food, clothing, toy, backpack, and school supply drives throughout the year. Hope for Us also sponsors a sleep-away summer camp for children in the inner-city. The camp is full of various activities and events, where the children have the opportunity to have fun and grow as individuals. Through our events and programs, Hope for Us aims to provide a positive light to these families, specifically the children.
