When we founded humansof2020.com, we intended to create a space where anyone could self-publish their stories from the most eventful year of our lives. We believed that the year 2020 should not be seen only as the year of the pandemic and that our shared experiences of loss, courage, hope and even humor could teach and inspire future generations. We’re proud of our small but growing community and the stories we’ve shared.
As the virus continues to evolve and change the way we live, we now view the year 2020 as a defining point in our lives. Yes, it remains the year when humanity found itself utterly unprepared. But it’s also the marker of an incredible stage of humanity’s evolution. Whether we recognize it or not, we’re changing everything about and around us.
At a personal level, we’ve hopefully found more time to introspect and realign our priorities. At work, we’ve changed the way we function. We’re learning how to integrate work and life. Some of us have turned challenges into opportunities and pivoted our businesses. Many others have turned into creators and entrepreneurs. Our faith in institutions has been realigned. We’ve seen how technology has replaced several traditional models of industry. We have more respect for healthcare workers and schoolteachers than ever before.
As the virus continues to mutate, we need to be ahead in our own evolution. We cannot do that by wishing things go back to the way it was. Instead, we need to look at new experiences that can be replicated and developed into new ways of living. But we can only do that when we learn from and collaborate with each other.
