Impact Café is een initiatief van de faculteit REBO van de Universiteit Utrecht, georganiseerd voor en door studenten. Impact Café is opgericht naar aanleiding van het kunstwerk Skyscraper, de plastic walvis die van januari tot oktober 2019 in de Singel voor TivoliVredenburg lag. Het doel van Impact Café is kennis vanuit de wetenschap, het bedrijfsleven en de overheid met studenten en andere stadsbewoners te delen. Om zo de dilemma’s op het gebied van duurzaamheid te verduidelijken, en te bespreken hoe bewustzijn kan worden omgezet in concrete acties.
Zo organiseert Impact Café interactieve avonden in TivoliVredenburg waarbij een sprekerspanel, bestaande uit experts en wetenschappers, de ruimte krijgt om met elkaar en het publiek in discussie te gaan. Aan het einde van de avond moet niet alleen duidelijk zijn wat het probleem is en welke oplossingen er zijn op macroniveau, maar ook hoe de student als individu kan bijdragen aan een meer duurzame wereld. Op die manier worden studenten gestimuleerd tot kleine en grotere gedragsveranderingen, ondanks de deprimerende stand van zaken wat betreft klimaatverandering.
Sinds de coronacrisis heeft Impact Café een driedelige webserie opgezet met de hoofdvraag: 'Wat betekent de coronacrisis voor het klimaat?'. In maart 2021 vond Het Grote Klimaatdebat plaats in TivoliVredenburg. Zes kandidaat-Kamerleden gingen met elkaar in debat over klimaatbeleid en honderden mensen keken live mee. Momenteel publiceert Impact Café drie podcasts waarin minder bekende, maar even belangrijke klimaatproblemen worden besproken.
