The Implementation Toolkit is designed for implementers of high-quality Small and Sick Newborn Care from around the world. These are based on the NEST360 Theory of Change for facility-based care and reflect World Health Organization Health System Building Blocks, with Infection Prevention & Control and Family-Centred Care as additions. Infection Prevention & Control has been added based on feedback from implementers that Healthcare-Acquired Infections (HCAIs) are a major risk to the application of Small and Sick Newborn Care. We have Family-Centred Care at the centre of our implementation wheel, reflecting the importance of a shift toward the families themselves when delivering Small and Sick Newborn Care. This principle is also aligned with The WHO People-Centred Care Framework.
Most importantly, The Implementation Toolkit showcases how all these building blocks are interlinked, with simultaneous implementation imperative to achieving high-quality small and sick newborn care.
