Founded in 1999, the Lymphedema Association of Quebec (LAQ) supports, educates, and raises awareness of people living with lymphedema, their families and friends, and health care professionals. We provide information and education on lymphedema, its causes, risk reduction, and treatments for this chronic disease while encouraging scientific research toward a cure.
We are proud of the work accomplished over the years:
The LAQ is the leading support and education organization in Quebec for people living with lymphedema;
Health professionals wishing to be certified as lymphedema therapists can take advantage of special courses organized by the LAQ;
Healthcare professionals from across the province look to us for information and advice about this little-known condition;
Our Telephone Support Program allows volunteer therapists to answer questions received from the public by email or telephone.
Healthcare professionals and patients across the province use our educational brochures and resource booklet.
In collaboration with the McGill University Research Program, our education program offers lectures on lymphedema risk reduction and treatment to nurses and therapists working in hospitals and CLSCs.
Our advocacy efforts have resulted in the recognition of lymphedema by the Quebec Minister of Health and, as of January 1, 2014, partial reimbursement of compression garments and bandages prescribed for treating lymphedema.
To finance all these activities, the LAQ has been able to count on the generous support of its members, sponsors, and donors and on fundraising activities such as the annual Lymphedema Walk, bazaars, and awareness days, among others.
We want to thank all the volunteers - people living with lymphedema, therapists, suppliers, and friends - who helped us achieve our goals.
