The Institute of Growth & Development (IGD) is a rural enterprise-focused not-for-profit non-state actor. Our engagements promote better livelihoods in rural communities. IGD engages in sustainable job-creation and enterprise support programmes for women, the youth, and people with disabilities. These programmes build the entrepreneurial mindset, accelerate venture creation, support existing businesses, fight unemployment, reduce poverty, and minimize rural-urban and rural-overseas migration. IGD supports actions that minimize harmful agricultural practices and other commercial activities that negatively impact climate change in rural communities. IGD programmes promote behaviour change, discourage incapacitating and harmful cultural practices, and assist community members to assume ownership of development support programmes.
IGD’s engagements also directly promote Sustainable Development Goal 1 (no poverty), Goal 2(zero hunger), Goal 3(good health and wellbeing), Goal 8 (decent work and economic growth), Goal 9(industry, innovation, and infrastructure), Goal 11(sustainable cities and communities), and Goal 13(climate action). IGD addresses the issue of sustainable enterprise support in rural communities by advocating for functional community governance structures.
IGD is a partner-CSO in the British Council EU-ACT programme in Enugu State, WorkwithUSAID, and other international organizations. It is also a member of the Coalition of Eastern NGOs, CENGOS, Enugu. IGD partners with Development Strategy Centre, DSC; Coal City University, Enugu, and several other institutions, in entrepreneurship and rural enterprise development programmes. IGD is developing a collaboration with the Lincoln International Business School, LIBS, University of Lincoln, UoL, UK. IGD partners with several rural faith/community-based organizations in achieving its core goals and objectives.
