Isabela Foundation is a scientifically independent foundation of excellence to support the management of natural resources for sustainable socio-economic development using integrated environmental analysis. It provides solutions to issues and problems in the sectors of environment and nature and natural resources, forestry, wildlife, and biodiversity etc., and recommends technical options based on local realities that are feasible from the socio-economic and institutional points of view.
The major strength of the Isabela Foundation is its multidisciplinary group of highly qualified scientists and technical professionals who bring a wide range of skills to the organization and can study environment-related problems in an integrated manner. Isabela’s staff has expertise in Climate Change, Forestry, Sociology, Hydrology, Water Resource, GIS, Soil science, Ecology, Biology, and Sustainable Development, etc.
The foundation is working with both govt. and NGOs jointly. MoU is maintained with Bangladesh Forest Department, University of Chittagong, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University Gazipur, Institute of Water Modelling together with other parties.
The Foundation has completed several projects. Mention worthy among them are:
- Environment Management Plan for Sonadia Island
- Inventory of biodiversity and management plan for Saint Martin’s Island
- Studying the marine biodiversity of Swatch of No Ground
- Baseline Ecological Survey of the rivers Karnaphuli, Halda, Sangu and Matamuhuri
- Plantation program at Sirajganj, Rangamati, and Natore
- Production of a video documentary on nature and biodiversity
The foundation has its own field research station at Sonadia, Saint Martin’s, Nijhum Dweep, Rema-Kalenga, Tanguar Haor, and Mongla
