Willkommen am Institut für Technische Mechanik von der Technischen Universität Clausthal!
Das Institut als Bestandteil der Fakultät für Mathematik/Informatik und Maschinenbau hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, in einem ausgewogenen Verhältnis zwischen Grundlagen- und angewandter Forschung mit entsprechender Rückwirkung auf Lehre und Weiterbildung moderne Methoden der Mechanik zu entwickeln und einzusetzen. Hierzu zählen die in den letzten Jahren zunehmend eingesetzten Methoden der numerischen Simulation aber auch moderne experimentelle Techniken.
Die strategische Ausrichtung der Forschungsaktivitäten orientiert sich am interdisziplinären Charakter der Mechanik deformierbarer Körper und der Strömungsmechanik. Forschungsthemen werden daher zum Teil in enger und fächerübergreifender Kooperation mit anderen Institutionen aus den klassischen Ingenieurbereichen und aus den Naturwissenschaften formuliert. Dabei versteht sich die Mechanik als ein Bindeglied zwischen Mathematik, Physik und den Ingenieurwissenschaften. Letzteres gilt insbesondere auch für die Ausbildung und die Lehre.
Traditionell stellt die Mechanik die Brücke her zwischen den mitunter recht abstrakten Lehrinhalten der Mathematik und der Physik auf der einen Seite und den Ingenieurdisziplinen auf der anderen Seite.
