Het IVKO is een bijzondere kunstvak- en montessorischool. Ons
motto is leren van kunst. Onze school is uniek in Nederland: er is
geen andere school die zo’n divers aanbod aan kunstonderwijs
heeft. Tegelijkertijd haal je bij ons een regulier mavo- (vmbo-t) of
havodiploma. Het IVKO is een kleinschalige, veilige school.
Onze principiële keuze voor kunstonderwijs houdt ook in dat wij het
reguliere programma in beduidend minder tijd aanbieden. Op het
IVKO hebben leerlingen dus een goede werkhouding nodig om in de
cognitieve vakken (wiskunde, talen en zaakvakken) in minder tijd tot
hetzelfde resultaat te komen als op reguliere mavo- en havoscholen.
Het IVKO heeft in de Amsterdamse kernprocedure de status van
kunstvakschool. Dat betekent dat leerlingen eerst hun motivatie voor
de kunstvakken moeten laten zien voordat zij het IVKO op hun voorkeurslijst kunnen zetten.
Het IVKO staat voor (kunst)onderwijs waarin leerlingen zich ontwikkelen tot zelfstandige mensen met artistiek-creatief vermogen,
zelfkennis en zelfvertrouwen. Met oprechte aandacht voor iedereen
stimuleren wij leerlingen om hun dromen na te jagen en een positieve
bijdrage te leveren aan de samenleving.
Kunstonderwijs staat centraal op onze school. Het helpt onze leerlingen om zichzelf, elkaar en de wereld om hen heen beter te begrijpen.
De leerlingen leren op onze school om hun grenzen te verleggen en
hun mogelijkheden te benutten. Vanuit een positieve houding en met
oprechtheid leren wij dagelijks van en met elkaar volgens de principes van montessorionderwijs. Het IVKO is een veilige, hechte en
creatieve leergemeenschap waarin het plezier in leren voorop staat
en leerlingen zich inzetten.
