John Eckert is an award winning lighting designer whose work has been seen across the country. He is the recipient of two New Hampshire Theatre Awards for his designs of Measure for Measure and Freud’s Last Session at The Peterborough Players and an LA Weekly Award for Iphigenia… A Rave Fable with Son of Semele Ensemble. As an Artistic Associate of the GLAAD Media Award winning Fault Line Theatre John has designed the world premiere of From White Plains and Beau Willimon’s Breathing Time. John's work has been seen at many New York venues including La Mama, HERE, The Flea and The Signature Center. Recent work includes If Colorado Had an Ocean which premiered this winter at La Mama and Mary-Kate Olson is in Love and My Daughter Keeps Our Hammer at The Flea. Regionally, John’s designs have been seen at Trinity Rep, Merrimack Rep, Sledgehammer Theatre and many others. He collaborated with Richard Foreman on the LA premiere of his opera What To Wear and spent a year as the Los Angeles Opera’s Wally Russell Intern. John has designed over 20 productions for The Peterborough Players and spent two years as the Resident Lighting Designer for the Brown University/Trinity Rep MFA Program. John holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree from California Institute of the Arts where he studied under Christopher Akerlind, Chris Barreca, and Heather Carson. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in theatre from the State University of New York at Buffalo where he studied with Cathy Norgren, Gary Casarella and Stephen McKinley Henderson.
