Jummah is not just another streetwear clothing brand. It provides a unified space for those who identify with two or more cultures as a result of both voluntary and involuntary movement of people from the East to the West. In representing 'third culture individuals', Jummah blends contemporary streetwear fashion with traditional Eastern art from the 7th century onwards.
The name "Jummah" stems from its literal meaning in Arabic, i.e. Friday - otherwise known as a day of congregation that brings together community in the name of faith. Similarly, each of our pieces tell forgotten stories about incredible intellectual contributions made by the Arab world through wearable art as a medium with the aim to bring together third culture individuals.
Jummah aspires to recreate the original translation movement which at its core focused on inclusivity, knowledge sharing and celebration of individual ideologies. Just like the translation movement, Jummah welcomes all, no matter your race, colour, faith or orientation.
Mimicking old practices and combining with the new - every piece by Jummah comprises of hand-drawn digital art, all of which is designed and printed locally in Sydney Australia.
