Humanity has engineered its arrival at a point in time and place of great potential; the metacrisis. Weaving with multicultural strands through art, technology and practice, Kai.retu’s Forests, an East African social enterprise, rises to meet the challenges of these times with a meta-response: regenerative culture. Kairetu, the Gikuyu word for ‘girl’, invites us to see through a very particular lens. By invoking kairetu, we tap into the latent power of the nurturing mother and age-cured crone as encapsulated in the curious and youthfully ripe maiden. In embodying kairetu through the work of our hands, hearts and minds, we release the seeds of her fruit, summoning the lushness of her forests. So we labour ourselves with the prosperity of her seeds, exploring the creation of thriving ecosystems, expressed through regenerative food systems design, seed sovereignty endeavours, natural building, regenerative education (re-membering) and intentional products.
