Karel & Co is an ethical soft animal brand. Karel & Co is on a mission to create unique, hand-made soft animals to support women in India with a fair income.
Karel & Co came into being out of the childish love for soft animals of sisters Jen and Lou. During their trip to India, they fell in love with its colors, beauty, and people. They got to know amazing women who shared their stories, learning firsthand about the value of economic independence.
Karel & Co teams up with the wonderful women of Saheli women. A non-profit social enterprise in Rajasthan. Saheli aims to provide women with sustainable livelihood opportunities and financial empowerment. Through the empowerment of these women, whole communities get empowered: children are able to go to school, and health care becomes accessible.
At the moment, Karels family consists of three animals: Karel Cobra, Vinnie Vleermuis and Doris Dromedaris. Every animal is individually crafted by hand, using colorful linen and Indian Ikat fabric, from left-over fabric. Being handmade, every animal has its own unique traits and imperfections, adding to its charm and individuality.
