Begin jaren 80 startte Keizerstad Radio als commerciële lokaal radiostation. In de jaren erna, groeide Keizerstad door gedreven medewerkers en afgewogen mix tussen muziek en informatie uit tot het populairste regionale commerciële radiostation van Nijmegen en omgeving. De wetgeving voorzag nog niet in de exploitatie van commerciële radio op regionaal niveau in Nederland, waardoor Keizerstad steeds vaker juridisch onder vuur kwam te liggen. Eind 1989 moest de afweging gemaakt worden om zich te heroriënteren. Dit resulteerde in het aanvangen van de exploitatie van een publieke radio omroep begin jaren 90 vanuit Elst. Na 10 jaar kwam de gelegenheid om commerciële regionale radio de exploiteren en daar heeft Keizerstad FM via de Oostelijke Media Groep in verschillende vormen succesvol invulling aan gegeven tot 2011.
In 2011 is besloten de activiteiten in de ether te beëindigen en de focus te leggen op herkenbare muziek uit de beginjaren van Keizerstad via online streaming. Keizerstad is met haar herkenbare 80's & classics format momenteel 1 van de meest populaire online muziekzenders in Oost Nederland.
