FROM QUARRY TO RACETRACK
The idea of transforming an old quarry into a racing circuit began to take shape in the early 1960s. In 1969, the Kinnekulle Ring racetrack was built. The initiator and owner at the time was Håkan Knutsson, who was also the manager of the Brattefors Limeworks. The decision to build the track on the quarry's site made it uniquely special, offering spectators the chance to watch the races from above. The 2,072-meter-long circuit was successfully created and remains the only racetrack in Sweden that has stayed intact since its construction.
SWEDEN'S FIRST SLIPPERINESS TRACK
The same year the racetrack was built, Sweden's first slippery surface track was inaugurated. This track became the model for several others that were developed throughout Sweden during the 1970s. It allowed drivers to train on slippery surfaces year-round, enhancing safety and driving skills under challenging conditions.
A HISTORY STILL IN MOTION
In 1984, the Kinnekulle Traffic Training Area Association took over ownership of the site and continued its operations focusing on risk and safety training. In 2019, the Tråvad-based company Stenhaga Invest became the new owner of the racetrack.
Today, the track still serves as a hub for risk and safety training, hosts competitions and events, and is used as a practice area for emergency services. It is also available for full-site rentals, continuing to play an important role in both motorsport and safety education.
