La Balsa Arte se planteó como objetivo desde el principio representar, promover y exponer la obra de artistas nacionales, colombianos residentes en el exterior y artistas internacionales cuyo trabajo refleja procesos de investigación en problemáticas contemporáneas. Entendiendo la investigación en arte como cualquier actividad sistemática cuyo objetivo es ampliar las fronteras de comprensión y conocimiento.
Considerando que el campo de la plástica es una herramienta potente para pensar, confrontar o reinterpretar las relaciones de un mundo globalizado, La Balsa Arte se ha enfocado mantener una conversación estrecha con artistas de varias generaciones.
La Balsa Arte ha patrocinado la participación de sus artistas en ferias, intercambios culturales, residencias y apoyo logístico para producción.
La galería actualmente cuenta con dos sedes. En Medellín abrió sus puertas en el 2017, recuperando una casa de los años 30 del siglo XX; en Bogotá se trasladó a un local en el centro financiero de la ciudad.

La Balsa Arte has set since the beginning the purpose of represent, promote and exhibit the work of national artists, Colombian artists living abroad and international artists whose work reflects research processes in contemporary issues. Art research refers to the undertaking of any systematic activity whose objective is to expand the frontiers of understanding and knowledge, both aesthetic and in the social sciences, the relationship between culture and society, history and the development of today’s world. Considering that the field of art is a powerful tool to think, confront or rediscover the relationships of a globalized world, La Balsa Arte has focused on maintaining a close conversation with artists of various generations.
Over the years, La Balsa Arte has sponsored the participation of its artists in fairs, cultural exchanges, residencies and logistical support for production.
The gallery currently has two locations in Bogotá and Medellín.
