Laboratorios FIDE S.A fue fundado en Cartago, en el año 1939 por el doctor Jesús Guzmán Centeno, médico y farmacéutico, fundador también del primer laboratorio microbiólogo del hospital de la provincia de Cartago que junto con su hijo el también médico y cirujano Doctor Andrés Vesalio Guzmán Calleja se dieron a la tarea de producir las primeras ampollas de extracto de hígado y otros productos de uso humano, que por efecto de la segunda guerra mundial escaseaban en el mercado nacional.
