LWDO is a national Non Governmental Organization with a mandate to operate in Tanzania mainland. Its main focus is to improve the livelihoods of the people and the state of the environment in Tanzania through agriculture, environmental conservation, health and water management.
Development of LWDO Project implementation Approach
As LWDO has been in operation for a short period of two years, the NGO has developed an approach that can help implement its program effectively. The methodologies developed include:
i) Participatory and all-inclusive; Stakeholders are informed of the Project from the proposal stage, creating an atmosphere to express their opinions and these are taken on board. The beneficiaries forming a group guided by democratic rules and procedures will be required to take up responsibility of project operations when the external support is withdrawn.
ii) All program activities are carried out in a gender sensitive mode, making sure that women are included in the decision making process. The interventions are based on demand, fully inclusive, sensitive to local cultural and religious beliefs.
iii) Cost sharing; the Direct beneficiaries have an obligation to contribute to the project activities either in cash or in kind up to 10% of the total Project cost. The beneficiaries will continue to pay fees that have been agreed upon for Operation and Maintenance of Project facilities installed.
iv) Technological aspects; Make use of technologies employed in the Project in such a way that they remain within the target communities in the end of the program so that it can be replicated elsewhere on a wider scale.
v) Environmental conservation; Beneficiaries observe actions and by-laws that protect the environment. The Project undertake land management measures to prevent soil erosion, soil mining and protect water sources from encroachment and pollution.
