Founded in 2006 by Black Student Union President Billy Holcombe, the Leadership Development Institute (LDI) is a specific cabinet within the Black Student Union dedicated to the progression of freshmen leaders on the University of Florida campus. Through LDI, the members create and run their own programs and events with minimal assistance from the directors in effort to learn the elements of leadership. Students that have participated in LDI have moved on to become some of the most prominent leaders on and off the campus.
The mission of the Black Student Union's Leadership Development Institute is to select students who show great potential and promise as a student leader and to prepare them for their future roles as campus, community, and world leaders. This cabinet will expose its members to various areas of leadership in order to inspire, develop and support the members’ commitment to lead with integrity, purpose, and passion. Members of this cabinet participate in a yearlong student leadership program.
The Leadership Development Institute seeks to give each member the tools they need in order for them to succeed. We provide a space for members to develop as leaders and grow as individuals. Our focus is building community while staying true to the values and ideals of the black student union with the goal of empowering the leaders of tomorrow.
