Luminate (also known as LuminateOS) is an international, currently non-profit company focused on developing modern Android apps. With over 100,000 community members worldwide, we aim to breathe new life into Android devices through smart, elegant, and privacy-respecting apps that run efficiently even on older hardware. Our current focus is the Luminate Launcher, a custom Android launcher built entirely in Kotlin. It’s designed with performance, privacy, and user experience in mind. The UI is carefully crafted in Figma and developed by experienced volunteers who believe in software that respects users, not ad networks. But the launcher is just the beginning. After its release, we planned to build our own Android-based operating system. The UI design is already complete, clean, and user-friendly. However, due to a lack of available AOSP developers, this part of the project is currently on hold. We believe every Android device still has potential — especially when powered by apps that value quality over profit. That’s why we develop independently, without ads or trackers, and always in close contact with our community. In the future, we may introduce optional pro versions to help support the team financially, but this is still under consideration.
