Founded in 2018, Macedo Cannatà is a multidisciplinary design studio based in Porto, whose work encompasses visual design and identity, image and brand, products and packaging, exhibitions and installations, websites and books. The studio approach prioritizes content over style, allowing for dialogue processes with the various parties – clients, authors, publishers, suppliers, etc. – to have a decisive role in the final result. Working mainly with artists, curators and cultural institutions, the studio was responsible for projects such as the Identity of the 5th Istanbul Design Biennial (2020), Culturgest’s new identity and visual communication (since 2018), the series of publications dedicated to the Collection from the Serralves Museum (2014–2018) and several books by artists such as Alexander Kluge, Bruno Pacheco, Vasco Araújo, Salomé Lamas, Alberto Carneiro or Nairy Baghramian. In 2018, two publications were selected for the DGLAB Book Design Award to participate in the international competition Best Book Design from all over the World, a distinction that was repeated in 2020 with two other books: “Lixo de Pinho” by Alexandre Estrela and “Acéfalanterna” by Von Calhau! In the 2021 edition of the same competition, the catalog “Álvaro Lapa: Lendo Resolve-se” received an Honorable Mention. Recently, the studio was chosen to develop the visual identity of the future Batalha Centro de Cinema in Porto, Portugal.
