In 2021, Nick Benson would return to the United States after spending the last three years of his life in Italy, as a paratrooper in the United States Army. He would be at home recovering from a shoulder injury (jumping out of airplanes can do that). He would be passionate about three things at this point in his life; fitness, the Southern United States, and owning his own business. Mak would have just retired from a five-year career in campaign politics. She'd be working in an office while volunteering at a local yoga studio and university to fulfill her passions. Since she was 17, she'd dreamed of owning a yoga studio that focused on child wellness and providing young people with tools for mindfulness. But without a college degree, this dream seemed very big and out of reach to her at the time. But of course, as the universe would have it they would cross paths... Mak met Nick across the street from their town's local Baptiste Yoga Studio for a brunch date and the rest is history. Since that day, they embarked on their journey. Two kids had a dream of making health and wellness accessible to as many people within the US as possible. Nick moved to Mississippi, where he would spearhead the dream while Mak stayed in California. She would study under the mentorship of Baptiste Yoga Affiliate Lorie Wilson in Turlock. Their dream became reality and their long-distance paid off. The company shares a name with the love of Nick's life MAK Studios is designed to make "meditation and kinesiology" available to all walks of life, it is nice when the universe works things out like that. As much as this studio is ours; we hope to make it home base for many people seeking out purpose, big life changes, and a place to be in their yoga practice.
