MARÍA FUND fue creado para garantizar un Puerto Rico justo y equitativo tras el paso del huracán María en septiembre de 2017. Lo hace mediante la canalización de recursos a grupos locales de organización comunitaria de base, que reconocen los desastres políticos, sociales y económicos que su pueblo ha estado atravesando como parte de las raíces del problema. En abril del 2019, tomamos la decisión de ampliar y profundizar el trabajo de Fondo María, desde un fondo de concesión de subvenciones de respuesta rápida a una entidad permanente de movilización de recursos que puede apoyar un ecosistema poderoso y alineado de líderes, organizaciones e iniciativas de justicia social centrados en organizarse para construir colectivos, poder comunitario y cambio estructural avanzado. Desde 2017 hasta diciembre del 2021, Maria Fund ha movilizado $7.5 millones en recursos, mediante 228 subvenciones a 90 organizaciones y estipendios a 80 líderes. Las organizaciones están en 50 de los 78 municipios.
