Messam & Rider was established in November 1998 by Steve Messam and Colin Rider (joint Directors). The business commenced trading as an occupational health, safety and environmental training and consultancy service from modest rented offices in Leamington Spa. Louise Astill, who, in an administrative role, helped Messam & Rider develop in the early months, accepted the offer of a Directorship in 1999.

These services include the provision of in-company training courses developed specifically for a client, with the courses tailored to their own requirements and the provision of public courses to national standards, including NEBOSH and Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) programmes. In addition, the business offers consultancy services in occupational health, safety and environmental compliance and improvements. This could include the implementation of structured safety managements systems, the provision of risk assessments, accident investigations in addition to audits and inspections. The consultancy services are offered in a full product package called SaferOptions.
