etaalimpuls is in 2000 ontstaan op initiatief van werkgeversorganisatie VNO-NCW en het Graafschap College. De aanleiding hiervoor vormde het (dreigende) tekort aan gekwalificeerd personeel voor de metaalindustrie. Het betrof een landelijke ontwikkeling. Echter, de ontwikkeling was extra zorgelijk voor Oost-Gelderland, omdat daar van oudsher veel metaalbedrijven zijn gevestigd. Het regionale bedrijfsleven en het Graafschap College bundelden hun krachten. Gezamenlijk werd een plan opgesteld: door de opleiding voor toekomstige vakmensen financieel en inhoudelijk aantrekkelijker te maken, moesten meer studenten kiezen voor een toekomst in de metaalindustrie.
Inmiddels kunnen we stellen dat de aanpak van Metaalimpuls succesvol is! Terwijl overal in Nederland de instroom van studenten alleen maar verder afnam, is de opleiding Middenkader engineering in de Achterhoek na een aantal magere jaren flink gegroeid. De instroom van nieuwe studenten is bijna zeven keer groter dan ruim 15 jaar geleden!
