At Milestone, we take a unique approach - we don't think we have all the answers! We believe that those who live with and those who work unmet needs (we call them expert users) have the best understanding of their challenges. By putting the expert user at the center, we are able to understand exactly what their challenges are and what solutions are lacking. To create solutions for these challenges we conduct different, social innovation activities (events, makeathons, workshops, courses, and more) with a variety of partners from the private sector, academia, and non-profit organizations. These engagements bring together multidisciplinary teams that create groundbreaking prototypes of solutions for these challenges.
We started Milestone from a simple idea and a shared frustration. After years in the social innovation space, we've seen so much time and energy invested in events and programs with lofty goals of "changing the world" and "moving the needle", but were always left with the same lingering question: What happens the next day, after everyone goes home? We came to call this the “day after” syndrome - events with big goals just end with no meaningful follow up or continued development and therefore, no real impact. Milestone is our way of addressing this - focusing on concise, researched and validated social challenges that have proven market potential. All our solutions/deliverables have implementation plans set in place from Day 1, ensuring lasting and sustainable impact.
