Milk and Dagger came about organically. Ames created the first #comfytum harems for her son (9 months at the time). His wee sensitive tummy would be bloated and swollen by midday, all the bottoms he had gripped to his waist, looking so uncomfortable. That first pair connected with something in another mama, who asked if she could buy a pair, and then the next... The brand was born from a desperate mama creating something that other parents wanted for their littles. It started without decades of marketing experience, big banking backers, the benefits of friends in right places. That was in 2015, since then thousands of parents have connected with this one tired Mama, supported by her husband. The DIY ethos has continued throughout our journey. As we’ve grown, mamas who share our values have joined us. Stay at home Mamas who were looking for the reward of being part of something alongside their roles in motherhood. We are parents working from dining tables and Ikea desks, not brokering deals with largescale manufacturers to mass produce the most cost-effective product. We take pride in that our offbeat, bold, daring fabrics are printed by another British independent who take the planets future as seriously as we do. Inks conform to okeo-tex standard as do the yarns used to weave the jersey. Waste water is processed through an onsite effluent plant. Plus, where possible waste fabrics are reused. Our packaging is recyclable, where possible we create styles to use up fabric offcuts; those we can’t are donated to local playgroups and nurseries for crafting. We hope that customers come to us because of their trust and connection to us as people and not just a brand.
