MLY is een opvallend Nederlands modemerk. Emily Hermans (1978), die al direct na haar afstuderen aan het Amsterdam Fashion Institute een eigen label begon, staat bekend om haar zelf ontwikkelde breisels (MLY Knits). Inmiddels ontwerpt ze ook geweven en geprinte kleding onder de namen MLY Woven en MLY Prints. Met name de ritmische, repeterende dessins en grafische patronen geven het merk zijn eigen signatuur.
Het bijzondere aan MLY Knits is dat deze lijn volledig in eigen hand en in eigen land wordt geproduceerd. In plaats van kant-en-klare stoffen in te kopen ontwerpt Hermans haar eigen materiaal. Ook de fabricage wordt niet uitbesteed aan de andere kant van de wereld, maar verzorgd door Weveknit, een productiebedrijf waar MLY zelf mede-oprichter en –eigenaar van is.
Hoewel MLY Woven en MLY Prints niet in eigen beheer worden gefabriceerd, worden ook deze lijnen volgens de eigen filosofie vervaardigd. Met veel aandacht voor ambacht en techniek, en dicht bij huis, zodat MLY het volledige productieproces van A tot Z kan controleren.
