Modula Optical creates excellent optical products for professionals and enthusiasts. We believe that the best way to do this is through comprehensive in-house engineering of products from concept through final drawings, doing as much manufacture and assembly ourselves in-house, and building close collaborative relationships with high-quality technology suppliers. That kind of focused end-to-end optimization of a design from user needs through to manufacturing leads to better products than typical mass-market outsourced design and manufacturing. For us, “Made in America” is more than just a label; it’s the only way for us to build things that meet our standards. Modula Optical was incubated by a small group of engineers at Brass Roots Technologies – a “skunkworks”-style R&D company that’s comprised almost entirely of engineers with years of experience in the cinema, military, automotive, medical, and consumer fields. Inspired by “mirrorless" cameras from Sony, Fuji, and others, our engineering team realized that they could further strengthen these tools for serious photographers with specialty lenses that are highly optimized for the optical specifics of the mirrorless format. Our first product is an ultra-compact 33mm prime lens with modular options for image effects, control, and more — designed and hand built at our facility in Plano, Texas.
