Our research group, coordinated by Dr C. Fiorino, is set within the Medical Physics (MP) Department of the Scientific Institute - San Raffaele Hospital, Milan (Director: Dr A. del Vecchio). The main research areas deal with several MP applications, mainly in Oncology, Radiation Therapy/Radiology, and include predictive modelling, medical imaging & radiomics as well as dosimetry and radiobiology.
The integration between research and clinical activities enables our multidisciplinary group (e.g., physicists, MPEs, mathematicians/statisticians, data scientists) to directly access large internal/external cohorts, supporting projects in close collaboration with physicians. We apply cutting-edge computational skills in AI and DL on clinical tabular data and medical images for the development of predictive models, imaging biomarkers, clinical decision-making tools, to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical practice, ensuring optimal outcomes. More traditional fields of MP are also investigated thanks to our full integration within the MP clinical group. In addition, the synergy with the pre-clinical MP group (coordinated by Dr A. Spinelli) permits to extend our activities toward selected “bio” and translational research fields.

AI in medical imaging (autosegmentation, Synthetic CT, AI for diagnosis/prognosis), Toxicity and outcome predictions in RT (e.g. IHU-WPRT TOX, PerPlanRT, BREASTOX), radiomics and quantitative imaging (e.g RADIOMIPA pancreas-PET; ESCAPE esophagus, ERI studies, pNET_radiomics, TETRIS, CALCARE, liver Mets, Oligo_lung, Oligo_prostate), densitometry (e.g. lung barotrauma-MACKLIN ARDS, Breast_BIMBOTRAD), Digital Pathology (e.g. AI-FLOPP), Preclinical collaborations (e.g., Mini-beams, urinary toxicity, Flash RT)
