The Monument for Recognition in the 21st century is an interpretation center located in the only digital cathedral in Canada: the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption cathedral in Moncton, built in 1939. Run by a secular non-profit organisation, its original content should interest all visitors wishing to discover this New-Brunswick heritage gem and learn about an often overlooked facet of Acadian and Monctonian history. In fact, the building’s unique heritage displays an eclectic mix of traditional and modern styles and contains extraordinary works by local and European artisans. The center’s scenography, on the other hand, makes use of cutting edge digital technologies. Among other things, in the cathedral chapel, visitors are sent on an immersive and captivating historical journey where they discover the exceptional life of Monseigneur Melanson, as well as the important role he played in the Acadian enlightenment. The show is both intimate and impressive, making use of music, spatialized sound effects and projections on several surfaces thanks to 3D mapping. In addition, visitors can manipulate giant screens that allow them to decode the historical and symbolic signification of the large stained glass mosaics in front of them much like a comic book.
