Welcome to the Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics! The Business and Economics Program at CSU Channel Islands has a liberal arts and interdisciplinary focus. It is built on the five Cs: critical thinking, collaboration, communication, conduct, and competencies. Students learn the fundamental principles of accounting, economics, finance, information systems, management, and marketing as applied in diverse organizational settings. A distinguishing aspect of the program is the integration of courses from disciplines outside the traditional business curriculum, such as Biology, Chemistry, Education, English, Fine Arts, History, and Performing Arts. A Capstone course provides students with the opportunity to integrate their knowledge through a Global Strategy Simulation exercise. Undergraduate students also choose one of five emphases - Entrepreneurship, Finance, Global Business, Management, or Marketing - each offering in-depth preparation for professional success. Building on this strong foundation, the Martin V. Smith School of Business and Economics also offers graduate programs that advance leadership and career readiness. The Master of Business Administration (MBA) develops strategic decision-making and problem-solving skills for professionals across industries. The dual MBA/M.S. Biotechnology program blends business acumen with scientific expertise, preparing leaders in biotech and related sectors. The new M.S. in Business Analytics (MSBA) equips students with technical, analytical, and data-driven skills to address the challenges of today’s digital economy. Together, these undergraduate and graduate programs prepare students to thrive as leaders in today’s dynamic, global, and interconnected business environment.
