The National Dementia Workforce Study (NDWS), sponsored by the National Institute on Aging of the NIH, collects the first large surveys of the dementia care workforce in the United States. Each of the surveys are conducted annually: Community Clinician, and Nursing Home, Assisted Living, and Home Care Staff and Administrators.
Survey data are valuable as a standalone data, and can be combined with linked data sources such as beneficiary-level Medicare claims. This free, unprecedented data resource allows researchers to answer critical questions about how workforce factors impact care and outcomes for persons living with dementia. Wave 1 data are available now.
NDWS also conducts an annual, national competition for pilot research projects that propose innovative uses for NDWS data.
NDWS is led by teams at the University of Michigan and the University of California, San Francisco, with other university-based and non-profit partners.
