Founded in 2012, Microbaric® Oxygen Systems LLC., and privately self-funded the conduct of five pilot studies to test our approach in cooperation with families dealing with autism. We have called this treatment Microbaric® Oxygen Therapy (MBO2). Our inclusion criteria were very simple, if their caregivers were prepared to participate in the pilot study, they were accepted regardless of their gender, age, or severity of their autism. Coincidentally they were all boys. It also turned out they were all pre-teens and teenagers when we started and already older than most of the subjects normally recruited into other autism studies. To monitor progress, we selected the Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC). The ATEC is a well-respected tool developed in the mid 90’s at the Autism Research Institute by Bernard Rimland Ph.D., and Stephen Edelson Ph.D. The ATEC, is one of the most widely used assessment tools in the autism community and freely available online. Over a half million assessments using the ATEC have been completed since it was introduced. It is used to evaluate the efficacy of treatments and monitor how individuals progress over time by parents and researchers as well as by schools, medical and behavioral clinics, and insurance companies. Our results have been stunning - changing ATEC measured outcomes from 'Severely Autistic' (ATEC 104/180) to Mild (ATEC 7/180). These results have remained long since ceasing therapy indicating long lasting/permanent improvement.
