NLcoach is de opleider en belangenbehartiger van trainers en coaches in Nederland. NLcoach is een vereniging met 4.000 leden.
Door de opheffing van de NFWS in 2005 dreigde er een gat te vallen in de belangenbehartiging van trainers en coaches in Nederland. Zeven Nederlandse topcoaches, onder leiding van Joop Alberda, hebben daarom de handen ineen geslagen om NLcoach op te richten. De initiatiefnemers waren naast Joop Alberda, Cor van der Geest, Jac Orie, Henk Kraaijenhof, Roelant Oltmans, Toon Gerbrands en Jan Reker. Het was hun ambitie om hun kennis te delen met andere trainer-coaches: zowel in de topsport als in de breedtesport.
Het doel van NLcoach is tweeledig: de deskundigheid van trainer-coaches te verhogen én opkomen voor de belangen van de trainers en coaches. Bij de eerste ligt de nadruk op sporttakoverstijgende thema’s als mentale begeleiding, fysiek/conditioneel, teambuilding, talentontwikkeling en basisprincipes coachen. In de kernactiviteiten – magazine NLCOACH, site www.nlcoach.nl, themabijeenkomsten, congressen en cursussen – staan altijd één of meer van deze thema’s centraal.
