With 300 years of history to its name, the story of Bacanora was originally as harsh as the lands that grow it. Banned in the early 1900s by Sonora state’s religious governor, producers risked their lives if they were caught.
Only in 1992, a century after its prohibition, would the ban be lifted and this rich tradition brought back to life.
